Tsarukyan was born in Akhalkalaki, Georgia, into an Armenian family and moved to Russia at age three. He has a diverse sports background including freestyle wrestling, in which he earned the title Master of Sport, and ice hockey, which he played for ten years. He made his professional MMA debut in 2015 and joined the UFC in 2019 after compiling a 13-1 record on the regional circuit.
