The flyweight matchup between Allan Nascimento and Cody Durden at UFC Vegas 119 was a fascinating clash of styles, pitting Durden’s aggressive wrestling and boxing against Nascimento’s slick Brazilian jiu-jitsu and improving striking.

Durden came out with urgency, pressing forward behind a stiff jab and heavy overhand right. He mixed in level changes early, forcing Nascimento to defend takedown attempts against the fence. The Brazilian remained composed, using underhooks and wrist control to avoid prolonged top pressure before separating. On the feet, Durden landed the cleaner punches in the opening minutes, but Nascimento answered with sharp calf kicks and accurate straight left hands that gradually slowed the American’s movement.

As the fight progressed, Nascimento began finding his rhythm. His footwork created angles that frustrated Durden’s forward pressure, and he consistently punished every wrestling entry with knees and elbows in close quarters. Durden continued to throw combinations and briefly secured another takedown, but Nascimento immediately threatened with submissions from his back, forcing Durden to stay cautious rather than inflict meaningful damage.

The decisive sequence arrived midway through the second round. Durden rushed forward looking to land a looping right hand, but Nascimento intercepted him with a perfectly timed counter elbow that stunned the American and forced a scramble. Sensing the opportunity, Nascimento quickly wrapped up Durden’s neck during the transition, locking in a tight anaconda choke. Durden fought the grip and attempted to roll free, but Nascimento expertly adjusted his position, squeezing relentlessly until Durden had no choice but to tap. The technical submission showcased exactly why Nascimento is regarded as one of the division’s most dangerous grapplers.

Official Result: Allan Nascimento def. Cody Durden via submission (anaconda choke), Round 2, 3:13. The victory marked Nascimento’s fourth consecutive UFC win and further established him as a legitimate threat in the flyweight division, while Durden suffered another setback after a strong but ultimately unsuccessful opening phase of the contest.
