Full fight video of Joel Álvarez vs. Drakkar Klose, one of the standout lightweight bouts at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Buckley on December 14, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. It ended in spectacular fashion, with Álvarez scoring a devastating first-round knockout at 2:48 after a flying knee and follow-up punches.

The opening minute featured a clash of contrasting styles. Klose immediately tried to pressure forward, looking to close the distance and negate Álvarez’s enormous reach advantage. Álvarez, standing tall in the center of the Octagon, stayed patient, firing long jabs, straight rights, and front kicks to establish range. Every strike forced Klose to think twice before rushing inside.

Klose briefly found success by initiating a clinch against the fence. He worked for control and attempted to slow the pace with wrestling pressure, but Álvarez remained composed. He landed short elbows while defending, created enough space to disengage, and quickly returned the fight to open distance—exactly where he wanted it.

Once back in striking range, Álvarez began piecing together sharp combinations. His long left hand repeatedly snapped Klose’s head back before he mixed in powerful right hands. Klose continued advancing, showing his trademark toughness, but he was increasingly absorbing clean shots as Álvarez’s timing improved.

The finish came suddenly. As Klose stepped forward aggressively, Álvarez perfectly anticipated the entry and launched a perfectly timed flying knee that landed flush on Klose’s chin. The American collapsed immediately. Álvarez followed with several rapid punches on the ground before the referee stepped in to wave off the contest, ending the fight at 2:48 of Round 1.

The knockout showcased exactly why Álvarez is considered one of the most dangerous finishers in the division. His ability to maintain distance with his 6-foot-3 frame, combined with precise timing and explosive knees, proved too much for Klose. The victory extended Álvarez’s momentum and highlighted his finishing instincts, while Klose’s four-fight unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end.
