Result: Kai Kamaka III def. John De Jesus via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds.
Returning to Bellator after a stint in the UFC, Kai Kamaka III entered the bout eager to end a three-fight winless stretch and remind fans why he had long been considered one of Hawaii’s top featherweight prospects. Across the cage stood the experienced John De Jesus, a durable and dangerous veteran known for his aggressive striking and willingness to engage in high-paced battles. The matchup produced an entertaining contest that featured technical kickboxing, relentless pressure, and several momentum swings.
Round 1
The opening round began with De Jesus taking advantage of his significant reach, snapping out long jabs and front kicks to keep Kamaka on the outside. Whenever exchanges broke out in the pocket, Kamaka’s accuracy proved to be the difference, repeatedly landing clean left hooks and right hands while avoiding prolonged firefights.
Midway through the round, Kamaka mixed in another takedown attempt, forcing De Jesus to defend against the fence. Although De Jesus escaped quickly, the clinch exchanges disrupted his rhythm and allowed Kamaka to dictate where the fight took place. By the closing minute, Kamaka had regained momentum with several clean combinations that visibly frustrated his opponent.
Round 3
Knowing the fight could still be close on the scorecards, both featherweights increased their output during the final five minutes. De Jesus pressed forward behind straight punches and spinning attacks, hoping to produce a fight-changing moment. Kamaka refused to be drawn into reckless exchanges, instead relying on disciplined footwork and well-timed counters.
The Hawaiian repeatedly intercepted De Jesus with short combinations whenever the veteran charged forward. His body work also began to pay dividends, slowing De Jesus’ pace and reducing the effectiveness of his forward pressure. Whenever De Jesus found success with long punches, Kamaka answered immediately, preventing him from building sustained momentum.
During the final minute, Kamaka maintained control by circling off the fence, avoiding unnecessary risks, and landing the cleaner boxing combinations. Both men exchanged respectfully until the final horn, bringing an entertaining featherweight contest to its conclusion.
